Mustafa's Dream

A childcenter for the Yezidi's

We are Marie-José en Klaas-Jan van Leeuwen. We are committed to a better future for the Yezidi-children.
The Yezidis were attacked bij Islamic State (IS) in 2014. Thousands of men were killed, many women and children kidnapped and their living grounds in Sinjar – North-Iraq – destroyed. The survivors fled and eventually found refuge in camps in Kurdistan.
Since last year the camps are being cleared and the Yezidis were ordered to return to their homegrounds in Sinjar area. There everything has to be rebuild again.

Mustafa has a dream, which focuses on the youngest generation of Yezidis.

Seeing them struggle, he wants to help them in their development.

His dream is to set up a centre for children aged 3-6 in the village where he lives, which is called Borek.
The centre will not only offer the children education, but also things like a midday meal and a programme focused on physical and mental health. This will help the children in their development and better prepare them for further education.
Everything will be centred on a better future for the children and, in that way, for the entire Yezidi community.

School building found

March 31 2026

In a couple of weeks our project gained momentum. Mustafa has found a building in Borek, that meets our requirements (see photo). The consultation with the owner had as result that we can rent the building for the coming years. After that Mustafa and his team immediately started working on the building. Necessary repairs were carried out and after that the whole building was thoroughly cleaned. At this moment they are working on the purchase of the equipment of the building, such as tables, chairs, desks and cabinets. read more

We want to help Mustafa realise his dream. But we cannot do it alone.

The first step is taken to renovate the building Mustafa thinks would be suitable for the children’s centre.
But we are not there yet.

Mustafa and his team have cleaned the building, and it can be furnished soon. However, more is needed to start teaching the children.

We hope you are willing to offer financial support to realise Mustafa's dream and help the children.

By doing so,the Yezidi community will also get a push in the right direction.

After all, the youth have the future!

Every donation, big or small, would be welcome. Thank you very much in advance
